Whitelaw Reid signs a piece of paper that is attached to a card in brown ink.
Signature: "Whitelaw Reid", 3¼x½ piece of paper attached to 3¼x1¾ card (two surfaces). Whitelaw Reid (1837-1912), who covered the Civil War as a young journalist, was handpicked by Horace Greeley as his successor to manage and edit the New York Tribune (1872-1905). Reid was the Republican Vice Presidential nominee in 1892, added to the ticket of incumbent Benjamin Harrison for the unsuccessful rematch with Grover Cleveland. Reid spent his final years (1905-1912) as U.S. Ambassador to Britain. Lightly soiled. Irregular edges. Otherwise, fine condition.
