Brief but warm handwritten letter to producer Charles Forsythe,
signed for himself and for his wife, Haila Stoddard
Autograph Letter signed: "Whit & Haila" [signed by Connor
only], 5½x3½ postcard, addressed in his hand to Charles Forsythe, New York, N.
Y., postmarked New York, N.Y., January 9, 1975. In full: "Dear
Charlie, You are one of those always there - always loved." Whitfield
Connor (1916-1988), best known for his role in the original radio production
of The Lone Ranger (1937), was an award winning Broadway actor.
Beginning on radio, Connor worked on The Lone Ranger and
Dragnet, eventually transitioning to Broadway in the 1945
production of Hamlet. His role in Macbeth (1948) won
the actor a Theatre World Award, his only major award, though he was well
received by critics in many other productions. After retiring from acting,
Connor served as the executive producer of the Elitch Theater in Denver,
Colorado, for 23 years, assisted by his wife, actress and producer Haila
Stoddard. He was a president of the Council of Stock Theaters (1967).
Charles Forsythe was a Broadway stage manager, serving 9 plays between
1955 (A Roomful of Roses) to 1965 (Alfie!). He later produced
the light spy caper, Mrs. Polifax, Spy, starring Rosalind Russell
in her last feature film (1971).Toned. Pencil note (unknown hand) at top margin.
Corners lightly worn. Light surface damage on verso. Otherwise, fine
condition.
