Houston (1963-2012), the daughter of R&B/Gospel singer Cissy Houston and the niece of popular singer Dionne Warwick along with the Goddaughter of Aretha Franklin, became the first recording artist to have seven consecutive singles reach #1 on the charts. Her version of Dolly Parton's "I Will Always Love You" became the biggest selling pop single of 1992, and has since become a popular wedding anthem. Between 1985 and 1999, she earned six Grammy awards. In the 1990s, she turned her efforts increasingly to films, starring in, and singing on the soundtrack for, such hits as The Bodyguard (1992), Waiting to Exhale (1995) and The Preacher's Wife (1996). She also appeared in numerous commercials throughout her career. Houston's passing was the night prior to the 54th Grammy Awards (2012), this was devastating to many and Houston was honored at the Grammys for her achievements as an iconic vocalist. She was also remembered the night of her passing at the famous Clive Davis party in which she was honored throughout the night by close friends and others. Pop diva Mariah Carey (b. 1970) burst on the music scene in 1990 with Grammy Awards for Best New Artist and Best Pop Female Vocal. Her self-titled debut album spawned four #1 singles. A talented artist with a five-octave voice who also composes her own songs, Carey was the best-selling female recording artist of the 1990s. She also embarked on a movie career with Glitter (2001) and Wisegirls (2003), Houston and Carey combined to sing the popular theme "The Prince of Egypt (When You Believe)" in 1998. Carey was nominated for eight Grammy Awards in 2006 for her album, The Emancipation of Mimi, Carey won three Grammys. Fine condition.
