Check filled out and signed: "Wright Brothers/W.W.," 6¼x2¾. Dayton, 1909 November 4. Drawn on The Winters National Bank, payable to Reed & Barnett for $100.00. The day Orville made the first successful flight in 1903, Wilbur later took the controls, flying 852 feet in 59 seconds. After their success, the Wrights returned home and continued their experiments at a field near Dayton. In 1908 and 1909, Wilbur demonstrated Wright aircraft in Europe and Orville flew in Fort Meyers, Virginia. In 1909, the first aerial motion pictures were taken in Italy when a photographer accompanied Wilbur on a flight. Also in 1909, the Wright Brothers received a U.S. Army contract for the world's first military aircraft and the Wright Company was formed. Wilbur died of typhoid fever on May 30, 1912. He was 45. ¼-inch diameter bank cancellation hole eliminates the "ro" of Brothers and just nicks the top of the first "W" of W.W. Bank pinching touches payee line (all intact). Pinhead-size hole at blank left. Slight show through from bank stamp on verso to signature and writing. Overall, fine condition.
