WILBUR WRIGHT
Wright signs a check to Frank B. Hale, who would represent the Dayton Aeroplane Club at his funeral 8 years later.
Check filled out and signed "Wright Cycle Co./W.W.", 8¼x3. Dayton, Ohio, 1904 December 27. Drawn on the Winters National Bank, payable to Frank B. Hale for $18.58. Endorsed by Hale on verso. In 1904, Wilbur and Orville Wright made 105 flights but totaled only 45 minutes in the air. Two of the flights lasted five minutes each. In 1912, Wilbur died of typhoid fever. Frank B. Hale was a founder of the Dayton Aeroplane Club, and would attend Wilbur Wrights' funeral as one of its representatives. Later, as Mayor of Dayton, he would be active in the movement to memorialize the Wright brothers' achievements, and would name Orville Wright to serve on a commission to honor John H. Patterson, who had founded the National Cash Register Company in Dayton. Lightly creased. Cancellation hole at blank area just above Wright's initials. "Pinched" cancellation cut touches the "ale" in Hale. Small file hole just above payee line. Otherwise, fine condition.
