WILFRED JOSEPHS
A bar from the English composer's Requiem, signed and dated 1987
Autograph musical quotation signed: "With best wishes/Wilfred Josephs/22/VII/87", in blue ink, 5¾x8¼. Josephs has penned a bar from the opening of Requiem (op. 39), and noted the record company publishing the music. Wilfred Josephs (1927-1997), an English composer, began musical studies while still young, but was pressured by his parents into a career as a dentist. Eventually graduating with a Bachelor of Dental Surgery, Josephs still pursued music, and in 1963 won the first International Composing Competition of the City of Milan and La Scala with his Requiem. After winning the competition, Josephs abandoned his career as a dentist and took up composing full time, writing 12 symphonies, 22 concertos, and several ballets, operas, and overtures. In addition to his classical compositions, Josephs also composed for television, writing the themes for several series including The Great War (1964), Weavers Green (1966), and Enemy At The Door (1980). Bottom corners creased. Light surface creases. Normal mailing folds. Adhesive reside on top edge of verso. Otherwise, fine condition.
