Club of San Angelo for $6.00 Historian/philosopher Will James Durant (1885-1981) was a
young teacher when he met Ariel (1898-1981), a Russian Jewish immigrant and talented
student. As a team, they became the most popular and among the most influential
historians of the twentieth century. Their 11-volume Story of Civilization, published over
forty years (1935-1975) extended from prehistory to the nineteenth century, and was lauded
for its fine writing as well as its ideas. Winners of the Pulitzer Prize and the Medal of
Freedom, the Durants produced such other influential works as An Invitation to Philosophy,
Heroes of History and a dual autobiography. Vertical folds creases. Bank processing stamps
