Will Elder sends an autograph letter of apology for being late in returning a
request.
Autograph Letter signed: "Will Elder", 1 page, 5½x8½. No place,
1980 December. To "Dear Stan & Karen" in full: "I'm
a little late in answering your request for the sketches & autographs
[Items not included.] - but better late than - you know what! Thanks again
for your kind words. Sincerely". Will Elder (1921-2008) provided the art for
action comic books before becoming a principal cartoonist when "Mad" magazine
was founded in 1952. He and his studio partner, Harvey Kurtzman, left "Mad"
in 1956 to publish rival satirical magazines of their own. In 1962, Elder went
to work for "Playboy", drawing the celebrated "Little Annie Fanny"
cartoons (Kurtzman wrote the story lines). The voluptuous Annie was a
feature of "Playboy" until Elder retired in 1988. One-fourth-inch tear on upper
left edge. Otherwise, fine condition.
