Correction sheets for Will H. Hays' biography in the 1922-1923
edition of Who's Who in America, with numerous ink and pencil
corrections. Accompanied by a postal return receipt signed by Hays in
pencil.
Annotated document signed "W H Hays". With numerous
corrections in red and black ink and blue and lead pencil in unknown hand. 4
pages, 8½x11. Oct. 26, 1921 and March 20, 1922. This is a set of three
correction sheets and one typed manuscript page for Hays' entry in the 1922-1923
volume of Who's Who in America. Two of the pages are pinned together and
have small clippings of Hays' entry from Who's Who in America. These
pages have numerous corrections in an unknown hand. Lightly toned, soiled and
creased. Pin holes in top left and bottom left corners. Folded once horizontally
and twice vertically. Otherwise in fine condition. Accompanied by: 1)
Unsignedtyped letter from A. N. Marquis & Co. Dated March 22,
1922. Addressed to the Honorable Will H. Hays, Sullivan, Indiana. In this
letter, A. N. Marquis & Co. asked Hays to correct his biography in Who's
Who in America and to return it to them as soon as possible. Lightly toned
and creased. Pin holes in top left and bottom left corners. Carbon copy marks.
Otherwise in fine condition. 2) Receipt unsigned. Dated March 23, 1922,
postmarked Sullivan, Indiana, March 23, 1922.United States Postal
Service return receipt addressed to A. N. Marquis & Co., Chicago, Illinois.
Lightly toned, soiled and ripped. Top left corner is torn off but included. Pin
holes in top left corner. Otherwise in fine condition. A. N. Marquis & Co.,
now a subsidiary of News Communication, Inc. publishes Who's Who in
America. Hays (1879-1954), who was Postmaster General from
March of 1921 to March of 1922, later served as President of the Motion
Picture Producers and Distributors of America, which created the "Hays
Code" of conduct in films produced by Hollywood.
