WILL HAY
B/w British picture post card of comedian Will Hay in black clothes, pigeon-toed shoes and sad clown facepaint, signed twice and "with Kindest regards" in 1910
Picture post card signed "Yours truly/Will Hay" on front and "To the Sisters Gaye/with Kindest regards from/Will/Aug 29/10". B/w, 3¼x5. British post card. British comedian and former bookkeeper Hay (1888-1949) got his show biz start in the United Kingdom's music halls in 1909. One of his characters was an incompetent schoolmaster, one that he played for the rest of his life and that he carried into film and radio. Hay appeared in 19 films between 1934 and 1943, often with comedic foils Graham Moffatt and Moore Marriott. He also starred in the weekly British radio program The Will Hay Programme in 1944. Lightly toned, soiled, silvered, creased and bowed. Pen skipped while writing signature on front, which is still legible. Pinhole in bottom right corner, which touches signature on front. Bottom of signature on back is slightly cut off at bottom but legible. Irregular left, right and bottom edges. Light impressions and scratches on image (not visible head-on). Otherwise in fine condition.
