Hunter? at the Country Playhouse, 1957. Actress and singer MARILYN MAXWELL
(1921-1972), born Marvel Marilyn Maxwell, made her stage debut at age
three and was singing with bands and on radio while still a teenager. In 1942,
she made her film debut inStand By for Action, and she would appear in suchfilms asDu Barry Was a Lady(1943),The Lemon Drop Kid(1951, in which
she also sang) andNew York Confidential(1955). Maxwell also guest starred on
a number of television anthologies, variety shows and series from 1949-1971.
The beauty was well known for her appearances on Bob Hope's USO tours,
usually wearing a sweater and singing "I Want to Love You", and she provided
afoil to Hope and Red Skelton on their television shows. Maxwell, who was
also popular in nightclubs, especially in New York, was married to actor John
Conte from 1944-1946 and to screenwriter Jerry Davis from 1954-1960. A
veteran of the Broadway stage since age seven, DICK VAN PATTEN appeared in 27
Broadway plays, including The Skin of Our Teeth, before he and his younger sister, Joyce,
made their film debuts in 1941 in Reg'lar Fellers (reprising their radio roles). Although he also
starred in a number of feature films, including Charly (1968), Freaky Friday (1976), High
Anxiety (1977), Spaceballs (1987) and Robin Hood: Men in Tights (1993), Van Patten is
best known for his role as Tom Bradford on the television series, Eight is Enough
(1977-1981). He had earlier appeared I Remember Mama (1950-1952) and made guest
appearances on a number of shows on the small screen, including The Love Boat and Hec
Ramsey, as well as starring in two movies based on his Eight is Enough series. Heavily toned.
