WILLARD SCOTT
The popular TV weatherman signs a card resembling a box of movie popcorn
Printed Card signed in ink: "Willard Scott/NBC-TV/'Today'", 5¾x6. Signed on a card illustrated with the likeness of a full box of movie popcorn. Willard Scott (b. 1934) is an American radio and screen actor, author, and comedian, among other things. His interest in broadcasting began at an early age and, when he was sixteen, Scott was a member of the NBC page program. During his academic career at American University, Scott worked at the university's radio station. After graduating, and beginning in 1965, Willard Scott began co-hosting the Joy Boys radio program. This program ran until 1972, with a pause between 1956 and 1958 while Scott served in the U.S. Navy. One of his better known roles is that of the originator of Ronald McDonald, the famous mascot of the McDonald's franchise. However, in 1980, Scott received his most famous role on The Today Show. He continues to appear on the show a few time a week to famously wish centenarians a happy birthday, and to fill-in for Al Roker during his absences. His voice can also be heard on Smucker's Jelly commercials. Scott's love for media extends into literature, as he has written six books including The Joy of Living, Down Home Stories, and America is My Neighborhood. Fine condition.
