biography Luce and His Empire (1972). William A. Sandberg (1907-1992) was born in St.
Paul, Minnesota in 1907. An aspiring newspaper writer, he received his B.A. at the University
of Minnesota in 1930. In the 1950's Swanberg decided to turn his attention to biographical
works and his biography Luce and His Empire won a Pulitzer-Prize in 1972. The book told
the story of Time magazine co-founder Henry Luce. Sanberg's Citizen Hearst: A Biography
of William Randolph Hearst (1961) was also well received by critics and the public. His
other works include Sickles the Incredible (1956), First Blood: The Story of Ft. Sumter
(1957), Jim Fisk: The Career of an Improbable Rascal (1959), Dreiser (1965), Pulitzer
(1967), The Rector and the Rogue (1969), Norman Thomas: The Last Idealist (1976) and
Whitney Father, Whitney Heiress (1980). Normal mailing folds. Otherwise, fine condition.
