In full: "This is just a brief note to thank you for your recent letter and the enclosed release relating to an impending meeting between Chairman Needham and the Soviet Government Bank of Foreign Trade. I appreciate having this information. With kind regards. Sincerely". William Belser Spong, Jr. (1920-1997) was a Democratic U.S. Senator from Virginia from 1966-1973. A veteran of WWII and an attorney and law professor, Spong had previously served in the Virginia State House of Delegates (1954-1955) and the Virginia State Senate (1956-1966). Slightly creased with folds, lower horizontal fold at the lower loop of the "J" in Jr. Recipient's address crossed out in pencil, "EM" written (unknown hand) at margin to right. Fine condition.
