The American composer pens an excerpt from his 2nd quartet

American composer and music teacher William Bergsma (1921-1994)
wrote choral ensembles, piano solos, orchestral works and two operas (The
Wife of Martin Guerre, 1956; The Murder of Comrade Starik, 1973). He
was chairman of composition at the Juilliard School and later head of the
University of Washington's School of Music. Bergsma eschewed atonal music,
preferring to compose in more traditional styles. He was awarded two Guggenheim
Fellowships and a grant from the National Endowment for the Arts. Light minor
smudge in signature (fully legible). Fine condition.
