Typed letter signed: "Bill Huie" in blue ink. 5½x3¼ postcard. Written on personal letterhead. Hartselle, Alabama. Postmarked March 19, 1966. Addressed to William W. Stanhope of Albuquerque, New Mexico. In full: "Thank you, sir, for your kind letter. I Have been away. Of course I shall be delighted to inscribe your book. Send it along. Best wishes". Post script: "I spent two summers in Albuquerque just after World War II, teaching at the University. Now, from the air, the place looks as big as Los Angeles". William Bradford Huie (1910-1986) was an American journalist, editor, publisher, lecturer, screenwriter, novelist, and television interviewer. His career began in the early 1930s as a journalist for The Birmingham Post, eventually moving to Los Angeles to work for the Times, famously working undercover to gather information on gangster Bugsy Siegel. Huie served in WWII as a Lieutenant, working as an aide to Vice Admiral Ben Moreell, memorizing his experience which would be inspiration for future novels. He became involved with conservative magazine The American Mercury after the war, serving as its editor, and introducing new, mass appeal writers such as Billy Graham and J. Edgar Hoover. His fiction work includes The Revolt of Mamie Stover (1951), The Americanization of Emily (1959), The Klansman (1967), his nonfiction work includes The Execution of Private Slovik (1954), Three Lives for Mississippi (1965) and It's Me O Lord! (1979). Toned. Corners rounded. Ink mailing stamps throughout. Two postage stamps affixed on verso. Otherwise, fine condition.
