WILLIAM C. REDFIELD
He signs a slip of paper with his compliments.
Autograph Sentiment signed: "Compliments of/William C. Redfield", 5½x2½ piece of paper. William Cox Redfield (1858-1932) was the first Secretary of Commerce (1913-1919), after the Departments of Commerce and Labor were split at the outset of the Wilson administration. A New York businessman who represented that state for one term in Congress (1911-1913), Redfield had attended the breakaway Indianapolis convention of "Gold Democrats" who refused to support William Jennings Bryan in the 1896 Presidential election.
