WILLIAM STYRON. Signature: "William Styron/May 23,
1968/paraph", 7x9¼. Magazine photograph, b/w, 2¼x3½, and advertisement,
2x3¼, for his book, The Confessions of Nat Turner, affixed at lower
margin. Author William Clark Styron (1925-2006) was awarded the 1968 Pulitzer
Prize in Fiction for The Confessions of Nat Turner, a first-person
account of an 1831 slave rebellion. His other well known novel, Sophie's
Choice, was published in 1979. Styron, who had published his first
novel, Lie Down in Darkness, in 1951, was awarded the American
National Medal of Arts by the National Endowment of the Arts in 1993.
Lightly creased. Slightly soiled, minor glue stain above upper margin of
photograph. Irregular left edge from removal from bound book. Fine
condition.
