Maine, 1p, 8½x11. Washington, D.C., 1981 April 1. On United States
Senate letterhead to Mr. John S. Bush, Jr., Vice President, Governmental
Affairs, United States Gypsum Company, Washington, D.C. In full:
"Thank you for your letter and the attached 1980 Annual Report. The
statistics that you quote are impressive. I am looking forward to reading the
report. Again, thank you for the information. Sincerely". A Republican,
William Sebastian Cohen (born in 1940) had served as U.S. Congressman
(1973-1979) and Senator (1979-1997) from Maine when he became
President Clinton's Secretary of Defense (1997-2001). As a member of the
House Judiciary Committee in 1974, he voted to send two articles of
impeachment of President Nixon to the full House of Representatives. Cohen, who
also played basketball (he is a member of the New England Hall of Fame)
and practiced law, is the author of a number of books, including mysteries and
poetry. Lightly creased with folds, not at signature. Slightly soiled at upper
blank margin, date stamp at upper right margin. Fine
condition.
