Letterhead from his private law practice in Bedford, Indiana. In Part: “You were tire-less in
your efforts in behalf of this fine Subcommittee. I know you will be greatly missed, and that you,
too, will miss your duties and association; however, you have richly earned your retirement, and
you have my best wishes for future happiness as you begin your retirement”. William E. Jenner
(1908-1985) was a United States Senator who represented Indiana from 1947 to 1959.
He briefly served as a U.S. Senator for three months from 1944 to 1945 after the death of
Frederick Van Nuys. Before he was elected to the U.S. Senate, he was an Indiana State
Senator (1934-1942) and served in WWII. While in Congress, he supported Joseph
McCarthy's anti-communist activities and demonstrated his isolationist foreign policy stance.
