On letterhead of Office of the Secretary of the Treasury to Mr. Danny Franklin, Phonix (sic), Arizona. In full: "Secretary Simon has asked me to thank you for your warm and thoughtful letter. He appreciates your interest, and is pleased to forward the enclosed autographed picture for your collection. With the Secretary's best wishes, Sincerely". Slightly creased. Fine condition. William Edward Simon (1927-2000) was Secretary of the Treasury from 1974-1977, serving under Presidents Nixon and Ford. Previously Deputy Secretary of the Treasury (1973-1974), Simon was an astute businessman both before and after his public service, serving on the boards of over 30 prestigious companies. He was also a long-time member of the U.S. Olympic Committee, serving as Treasurer from 1977-1981 and as President during the 1984 Olympic Games. In recognition of his efforts, Simon was inducted into the U.S. Olympic Hall of Fame in 1991. His son, Bill, was a candidate for the Republican nomination for Governor in California in 2002.
