Dated on February 3, 1954. Written on official United States Senate letterhead. Addressed
to: Mr. John Miller, 722 Portola Avenue, Glendale, California. In full: “Dear Mr. Miller:
Your recent letter has been received and is appreciated. The signature on this letter will serve as
my autograph, which you have requested. Sincerely yours, William F. Knowland.” William Fife
Knowland (1908-1974) represented California in the U.S. Senate from 1945-1959.
Knowland, who served as Republican Senate Majority Leader (1953-1955) and Minority
Leader (1955-1959), had previously served in the California State Assembly (1933-1935) and
State Senate (1935-1939). Also a veteran of WWII, he committed suicide in 1974. Sealed.
