Autograph letter signed: "William F. Loomis" in blue ink. 5x8. November 9, 1963, Bloomfield, Connecticut. Written to "Dear Mr. Stanhope" in full: "In reply to your request of November 4th, I am enclosing herewith a signed passport picture which I hope will fulfill the requirements of your exhibition. Good luck to you in your efforts. Yours sincerely." William F. Loomis was an engineer and pilot in France during World War I. After graduating from Amherst College in 1917 he went to France to become an ambulance service volunteer and then a French Aviation Service volunteer. After the United States entered the war, he transferred to the 94th Squadron. Later he was named flight commander of the 213th Pursuit Squadron of the 3d Pursuit Group. He was later awarded the Croix de Guerre. After the war, Loomis worked for the United Aircraft Corporation from 1934 to 1959. Lightly toned. Corners rounded. Normal mailing folds. Pencil note (unknown hand) on verso. Otherwise, fine condition.
