Signature: "Wm. F. Vilas./April 19th 1886." as Cleveland's Postmaster General in black ink. 7¼x6. Attorney and Union Civil War veteran William Freeman Vilas (1840-1908) was Postmaster General (1885-1888) and Secretary of the Interior (1888-1889) under President Grover Cleveland. He later represented Wisconsin as a Democrat in the U.S. Senate (1891-1897). Pencil notes (unknown hand) at upper margin. Slightly creased. Shaded at blank right margin. Irregular left edge from removal from bound book. Fine condition.
