programing in Alabama, signs name in black ink
Typed letter signed: "Bill Nichols" in black ink. 1 page,
8x10½. Written on personal U.S. House of Representatives letterhead. Washington,
D.C. January 22, 1975. Addressed to Mr. Herman R. Goldberg, Associate
Commissioner for Equal Education Opportunity in the Office of Education. In
full: "It has come to my attention that a group from Region 4 has
requested a meeting with you on January 22nd to discuss possible losses of ESAA
money in the Southeastern part of the United States. Although we have progressed
tremendously in the south in meeting the demands place on our school systems by
the courts and by HEW we are still face problems in some areas that these funds
are needed to help solve. I would urge you and your staff at HEW to give serious
consideration to the arguments which will be presented by the delegation from
Region 4 for retaining ESAA program in the South. Sincerely". William
