Five days before leaving office, McAdoo thanks Isidor Shaffer, Washington, D.C.,
"for your thoughtful and generous letter. I deeply appreciate your good
opinion...." McAdoo served as Wilson's Secretary of the Treasury from 1913
until December 15, 1918. In 1914, McAdoo married President Wilson's daughter,
Eleanor, in the White House. He was the leading presidential candidate on the
first ballot at both the 1920 and 1924 Democratic National Conventions, losing
both nominations, McAdoo later represented California in the U.S. Senate
(1933-1938). Lightly creased and soiled. Erased pencil notes (unknown hand)
lower right. Fine condition.
