WILLIAM G. MILLIKEN
As Governor of Michigan, he congratulates the Wyandotte Boat Club on successful
regattas.
Typed Letter signed: "William G. Milliken" as Governor, 1 page, 7¼x8¾. Lansing,
Michigan, 1975 April 18. Lansing, Michigan, 1975 April 18. On official letterhead to
Ellwood E. Hebda, Corresponding Secretary, Wyandotte Boat Club, Wyandotte, Michigan.
In full: "I would like to take this opportunity to wish all the participants in both the 5th Annual
Wyandotte High Schools Rowing Regatta and the Wyandotte Boat Club Centennial Invitational
for another fine regatta in Wyandotte. Sincerely". William Grawn Milliken (1922-2019) was
the Republican Governor of Michigan from 1969-1983. Serving for 14 years, he holds the
record for longevity for Governors of the state, and his record will likely stand, as Michigan
Governors are now limited to two terms. Milliken, a veteran of WWII, had previously served
in the Michigan State Senate (1961-1964) and as Lieutenant Governor of Michigan
(1965-1969). The son and grandson of Michigan politicians (James T. and James W.
Milliken, respectively), Milliken was instrumental in the formation of the Council of Great
Lakes Governors in 1982. Normal binding holes in left edge. Otherwise, fine condition.
