Price: $90.00
WILLIAM G. MILLIKEN. Typed Letter signed: "William G. Milliken" as Governor
of Michigan, 1p, 7¼x10½. Lansing, Michigan, 1969 August 6. On embossed letterhead of
State of Michigan/Office of the Governor to Mr. Danny Franklin, Phoenix, Arizona. In full:
"Thank you very much for your recent letter requesting information about me and other living
Michigan governors. Enclosed you will find the information you requested. [not included]. I hope
you will find it adequate. I sincerely appreciate your kind comments, and I hope I will continue to
earn your support. With personal regards. Sincerely". William Grawn Milliken (1922-2019) was
the Republican Governor of Michigan from 1969-1983. Serving for 14 years, he holds the
record for longevity for Governors of the state, and his record will likely stand, as Michigan
Governors are now limited to two terms. Milliken, a veteran of WWII, had previously served
in the Michigan State Senate (1961-1964) and as Lieutenant Governor of Michigan
(1965-1969). The son and grandson of Michigan politicians (James T. and James W.
Milliken, respectively), Milliken was instrumental in the formation of the Council of Great
Lakes Governors in 1982. In 2004, he broke ranks with the Party to support John Kerry in
his bid to unseat George W. Bush. Faint paperclip impression and stain at top edge center.
Otherwise, fine condition.
