to serving as Vice President at the Canteen Corporation following his political
career, Stratton became Vice President of Associated Bank, and he was a board
member of Dartnell Corporation. William Grant Stratton (1914-2001), a
veteran of WWII, was a Republican U.S. Representative from Illinois
(1941-1943, 1947-1949), Illinois State Treasurer (1943-1945, 1951-1953)
and Governor of Illinois (1953-1961). During his tenure, Stratton was
instrumental in the modernization of the state's roadway system and the
development and construction of O'Hare International Airport. Stratton,
who was a delegate to the Republican National Convention in 1952, 1956,
1960 and 1976, had also been a candidate for Secretary of State of
Michigan (1948) and for the Republican nomination for Vice President
