WILLIAM GREEN
His signature in black ink on a 4x2½ card
Signature: "Wm Green", 4x2½ card. A coal miner for 20 years, William Green (1873-1952) rose through the ranks of the United Mine Workers and the American Federation of Labor, succeeding AFL President Samuel Gompers in 1924. Serving until his death in 1952, Green advocated union/management cooperation and supported pegging wage increases to productivity increases, an unusual position for a labor leader. Earlier, as an Ohio State Senator, Green had secured passage of a model Workmen's Compensation Act (1911). Slightly soiled. Mounting remnants on verso, slight show-through at blank margins. Fine condition.
