Typed letter noting that a new show will not start until February,
"so you are perfectly safe for Christmas".
Typed Letter signed: "W Greet", 1 page, 8x5. Avenue
Theatre, Northumberland Avenue [London], 1895 December 12. On his
letterhead as lessee and manager to Miss C. Scott, in full: "The show
will not start until sometime in February, so you are perfectly safe for
Christmas. Yours truly". William Greet (1851-1914) became a
theater manager in the 1880s. At first he worked for other owners, but
became himself a theatre lessee (as shown here) and the producer of many hit
London plays. He was associated with the Lyric, Savoy and Adelphi
Theatres. Greet specialized in light opera and other musicals,
including Gilbert & Sullivan but introduced new works as well. Multiple
mailing folds. Toned and creased. Lightly soiled. Typed ink faint. Otherwise,
fine condition.
