a collector's letter from Jack Clearly, Taunton, Massachusetts. Signed circa 1972. William H.
Goetzmann (1930-2010) won the 1967 Francis Parkman Prize and the Pulitzer Prize in
History for his book Exploration and Empire. The book, which is his most famous, details
the exploration of the American West. A dedicated teacher, Goetzmann was emeritus professor
in the American Studies and American Civilization Programs at the University of Texas at
Austin. His last book Beyond the Revolution: A History of American Thought From Paine
to Pragmatism was published in 2009, a year before his death. Normal mailing folds creased.
