WILLIAM HENRY BARTLETT
The later William Henry Bartlett, who worked in oil paintings rather than steel engravings, writes to someone who has confused the two.
Autograph Letter signed: "W. H. Bartlett", 1 page, 4½x7.Savage Club [London] 1889 October 9. On letterhead of the Savage Club to "C. T. Boyles", in full: "The date you refer to know doubt refers to a talented namesake of mine, a contemporary of Turner, and whose principal work consisted of a number of impressions of Palestine & other places. My age is 31, I having made my debut in this world on September 6th, 1858. Faithfully yours". English painter William Henry Bartlett (1858-1932) was a realistic painter - known for his seascapes - who worked primarily in oil on canvas. In this letter, he corrects a correspondent who had confused him with "talented namesake" William Henry Bartlett (1809-1854), known for his steel engravings of Palestine and other places in the Middle East. Frayed and torn at left edge. Lightly soiled. Normal mailing fold. Otherwise, fine condition.
