The famed topographical illustrator writes regarding a missing manuscript
belonging to "young Morrison".
ALS: "WB", 1p, 4½x7, affixed to 6¼x7¾ sheet. No place, no date. To
"Dear George". In full: "If you have that MSS of young
Morrison's, do not omit to forward it to him by post to No. 2 Gloster Villas
Albany St. Regent Park as he is desconsolate there at and find it I cannot.
Please forward [illegible] to Mr. [illegible]. I got here very
completely via Clay's house & [two words illegible] I feel a little
soda water [two words illegible] Yrs sincerely". William Henry
Bartlett (1809-1854), a topographical illustrator, was best known for his
classic work, Walks About Jerusalem. Bartlett, who also traveled
Syria, Egypt and Palestine as well as the U.S. (four visits between 1836-1852),
died at age 45 while returning from a voyage to the Orient. Lightly creased with
folds, not at signature. Lightly soiled, touching initials and writing.
Irregular left edge. Mounting sheet is lightly stained. Upper portion of right
margin torn away. Ink notes (unknown hand) at upper margin. Overall, fair
condition.
