WILLIAM HENRY CARDINAL KEELER

Signature: "+William Henry Keeler", in black ink, 4¼x3½.
William Henry Keeler (b. 1931) received a BA from St. Charles Borromeo
Seminary in 1952, and later ordained as a priest in 1955 while studying in
Rome. In 1979, Keeler was appointed as Auxiliary Bishop of Harrisburg, and was
made the seventh Bishop of Harrisburg several years later. Keeler served
in that position until 1994 when he was made Cardinal-Priest of Santa Maria
degli Angeli e dei Martiri by Pope John Paul II. As Cardinal, Keeler served
as Chair for the Committee on Pro-Life activities and also served to strengthen
the struggling Catholic school system. Due to his old age, Keeler resigned
from his position as Cardinal in 2007. Pencil notes (unknown hand). Fine
condition.
