WIILLIAM HIRAM RADCLIFFE
The future electrical engineer writes affectionate letter to a
friend, signs name in black ink
Autograph letter signed: "Will" in black ink. 3 pages integral
leaf, 4½x7 folded 7x9 flat. August 1, 1895. In full: "My dear Deta:- I
am delighted to hear you have accepted Mother's invitation to visit us. I
believe you said you would be up on the 17th, but was afterward asked if you
could come sooner. Father has his vacation at the Bank just then and some of us
might possibly be away; but my dear, if you can't conveniently come before, come
then. I will promise you I won't run away. There is just one thing I
would like to add and that is: Don't come with the idea of spending only three
or four days as you did last year and so put me to the trouble of praying for
rain to keep you here, but make us a nice long visit this time - won't you? I
have had a splendid time so far this summer - have been floating around all
over. North, South, East and West. Suppose from your letters you have been doing
the same, and REST as you say is needed. No better place for that than at
"Sleepy-Hollow". Hoping to see you before long, I remain Lovingly yours".
