Autograph letter signed: "Will" in black ink. 3 pages, 4½x7 folded, 7x9 flat. December 29, 1895. In full: "My darling Det:- the pretty Christmas gifts, I believe have already been acknowledge but it still remains for me to express my appreciation of those I received. I must say "I like your nerve" in sending that ivory score card. I really believe you thought I cheated in those games we played last summer, and sent this as a gentle hint. However that may have been, there need be no excuse now for failing memories, etc. etc. and also is a most welcome gift and will lift a great weight off my mind when the wind blows and perhaps it is needless to say we have a large quantity of that substance out at Cambridge which is largely artificial at times. Now, Det. In answer to that kind invitation you sent me in your last letter will say, that if nothing prevents will come sometime Tuesday afternoon. College opens Friday and so will return Thursday night on the Fall River steamer - I hope this will be convenient for you. If not, will make other arrangements later on. Radcliffe (b. 1873) graduated from Harvard University in May 1896, and worked as an electrical engineer and professor. Radcliffe wrote Telephone Instruments, Their Operation, Arrangement and Management in 1913 and Home Study Course in Practical Electricity in 1916. Normal mailing folds. Toned. Light surface creases.
