An actor, director, writer and producer on Broadway, his debut The Guest of Honor (1920) was performed at the Broadhurst Theatre. Hodge continued to produce his performances on Broadway over the next decade, with hits like Beware of the Dogs (1921), For All of Us (1923-1924), The Judge's Husband (1926-1927), Straight Thru the Door (1928), Inspector Kennedy (1929-1930) and The Old Rascal (1930).
