WILLIAM BOYD
Signs contract agreeing to allow the exhibition of forty Hopalong Cassidy pictures in the United Kingdom
Typed Contract signed: "William Boyd" twice, 2p, separate sheets, 8½x11, National Broadcasting Company letterhead, 1952 March 2. Agreement between NBC and Boyd "relating to the half-hour HOPALONG CASSIDY films produced by you". The agreement confirms that NBC has "received an offer from Associated-Rediffusion for the right to exhibit each of the forty 'new' HOPALONG CASSIDY pictures twice in each area in the United Kingdom and all British possessions...the consideration offered is $2,500 per picture...." Boyd has signed for William Boyd Productions, producers of 14 episodes in 1952 and B.B. Productions, producers of 26 episodes in 1953-1954. William Boyd first starred as Hopalong Cassidy, a western hero who dressed in black and rode a white horse, in 66 movie features filmed between 1935 and 1948. He personally acquired the television rights to the films and edited the features into 30 and 60-minute segments. The films proved so popular that he filmed an additional 52 episodes for television. Hopalong Cassidy was televised on NBC from 1949-1951 and was syndicated from 1952-1954. Lightly creased. File holes at upper margin. Staple holes and small tear at upper blank area. ¼-inch tear at blank right edge (all intact).
