Signs contract agreeing to allow the exhibition of forty Hopalong
Cassidy pictures in the United Kingdom
Typed Contract signed: "William Boyd" twice, 2p,
separate sheets, 8½x11, National Broadcasting Company letterhead, 1952 March
2. Agreement between NBC and Boyd "relating to the half-hour
HOPALONG CASSIDY films produced by you". The agreement confirms that
NBC has "received an offer from Associated-Rediffusion for the right to
exhibit each of the forty 'new' HOPALONG CASSIDY pictures twice in each
area in the United Kingdom and all British possessions...the consideration offered
is $2,500 per picture...." Boyd has signed for William Boyd Productions,
producers of 14 episodes in 1952 and B.B. Productions, producers of 26 episodes
in 1953-1954. William Boyd first starred as Hopalong Cassidy, a western hero
who dressed in black and rode a white horse, in 66 movie features filmed between
1935 and 1948. He personally acquired the television rights to the films and
edited the features into 30 and 60-minute segments. The films proved so popular
that he filmed an additional 52 episodes for television. Hopalong Cassidy
was televised on NBC from 1949-1951 and was syndicated from 1952-1954.
