Bennett, a writer, speaker, government official and social activist, served as Reagan's Secretary of Education (1985-1988) and Chairman of the National Endowment for the Humanities. He was also the nation's so-called "Drug Czar" as Director of the Office of National Drug Control Policy under President George H. Bush. Bennett, who is also one of the founders of Empower America and Americans for Victory Over Terrorism, is known for his advocacy of education reform and curtailing government bureaucracy, and he is a frequent guest on television news shows, especially Meet The Press. Also known for his strong stance on morality (he is also the author of the best-selling The Book of Virtues),Bennett made news in 2003 when it was disclosed that he was a "high stakes" gambler.
