Blue album leaf signed by rock and roll pioneer Bill Haley
Inscribed album leaf signed "To John/Bill Haley" in blue ink. Blue ink notations on verso. 4¾x3¼ album leaf. In 1944, Haley (1925-1981, born William John Clifton Haley in Highland Park, Michigan) joined the Downhomers, with whom he made his first appearance on records. Haley left the group in 1946. After going through several bands, he formed the Four Aces of Western Swing that, by 1949, had become Bill Haley and the Saddlemen. By 1952, playing off of their leader's name and the celestial phenomenon called Halley's Comet, they became Bill Haley and His Comets. The central event in Haley's career was the single Rock Around the Clock, which topped the charts for eight weeks in the spring and summer of 1955, a year after his million seller Shake, Rattle and Roll. Most music historians identify Rock Around the Clock's success as the dawn of the rock and roll era. Lightly toned and creased. Impressions from notations on verso (do not touch signature). Torn from album at left edge. Lightly rounded corners. Otherwise in fine condition.
