The fighter pilot buried in Arlington National Cemetery signed this black and
white photograph of him standing in front of his plane
Photograph Signed: “William J. Sloan”. Overall size 8x10, actual image 7x9½ with
a white border (one surface). William J. “Dixie” Sloan (1921-1999) enlisted in the
United States Air Force in 1942. While flying in Europe, he earned 12 kills and
the title of flying ace. Sloan also flew dozens of Berlin Airlift flights into east
Berlin, providing aid to people on the Russian-controlled side of the city. The
Lieutenant Colonel is buried in Arlington Cemetery. Fine condition.
