In full: "Dear Sir, Many thanks for your letter & correction. Even an old stager of a novelist is not infallible. Yours vry truly". William John Locke (1863-1930) was an author and playwright, known for his works Ladies in Lavender, The Morals of Marcus Ordeyne, and The Beloved Vagabond. Locke had previously graduated with a degree in mathematics and worked as a schoolteacher and headmaster, all of which he disliked greatly. It was only after he was stricken with tuberculosis that he began to pursue writing full-time, publishing a large amount of works before his death in 1930. Several of his writings were turned into Broadway plays, named The Morals of Marcus (1907), Idols (1909), and Septimus (1909). Locke also wrote two original plays, titled The Witch (1910) and The Mountebank (1923). His works have also been translated into a number of popular films, most recently Ladies in Lavender in 2004. Multiple folds. Toned. Slight surface creases. Corners slightly worn. Otherwise, fine condition.
