Signature: "William K. Sebastian", 6x3 album leaf. Ink caption (unknown hand): "Arkansas". William King Sebastian (1812-1865), a planter and lawyer, was appointed to the Arkansas Supreme Court in 1843. He represented his state in the US Senate from 1848 to 1861, withdrawing from the Senate when Arkansas seceded from the Union. He was formally expelled by the Senate, but took no active part in the rebellion. In 1877, the Senate posthumously revoked his expulsion and paid full compensation to his children. Jagged at right edge from removal from bound book. Fine condition.
