Autograph musical quotation signed "For Peter Kahn/Opening from Concerto for Piano and Orchestra/William Kraft/July, 4, 1975". Pencil notations on verso in unknown hand. 1 page, 9½x7½, on musical bar paper. With four measures from Kraft's Orchestra for Piano and Orchestra (1972-1973). Kraft, born William Kasharevsky in Chicago Illinois in 1923, is an American composer and percussionist who was with the Los Angeles Philharmonic for 30 years (1955-1985). Kraft has said that he got interested in music when he heard Benny Goodman on the radio at 15. He joined the Los Angeles Philharmonic in 1955 after playing with the United States Air Force band during World War II and studying and gigging in New York as a drummer. Kraft spent his first 25 years with the Los Angeles Philharmonic's orchestra,the last 17 years as principal timpanist. He also organized the Los Angeles Percussion Ensemble and composed numerous pieces for band, chamber ensemble, chorus and orchestra, as well as an opera, Red Azalea (2002-2008). Lightly toned, soiled and creased. Light tear at right edge. Otherwise, fine condition.
