Autograph letter signed: "W. L. Courtney". One page. 5x8. Dated October 24, 1895. In Full: "I am glad to hear that Prof. Wagner is willing to allow his address to be published in the Fortnightly. If you will kindly take the matter in hand I should like the translation to occupy not more than 10 or 12 pages of the Review". William Leonard Courtney (1850-1928) was an author, philosopher, and journalist, first beginning his education at Somerset College. After finishing his education, he was appointed Headmaster of Somersetshire College and remained there for some years before transferring to Oxford in 1876 to lecture. During his time at Oxford he focused on philosophy, lecturing, and writing for many years. He also worked as a journalist during his stay at Oxford, writing for The World, The Fortnightly Review, Edinburgh Review, and The Daily Telegraph. He was chief editor of The Fortnightly Review from 1894 until his death. His own publications include Life of John Stuart Mill (1889), The Feminine Note in Fiction (1904), and In Search of Egeria (1911). Right edge worn. Mailing creases. Toned. Light smudging along bottom edge does not impact legibility. Note on verso in unknown hand. Otherwise, fine condition.
