Autograph sentiment on printed photograph signed in ink: "Best Wishes/William Lewis" on verso. B/w with rose hue, 3½x5½ overall, image 3x4½ (one surface). Depicted in Carmen at New York's Metropolitan Opera. Photograph by J. Heffeman; imprint at lower right margin. William Lewis (b. 1935), a leading tenor with major operas, including New York's Metropolitan Opera, the San Francisco Opera, La Scala and the Royal Opera Covent Garden, has sung over 130 major roles in ten languages. In 1995, Lewis, who appears on a number of recordings, founded the Austrian American Mozart Academy in Salzburg, Austria, the home of Mozart and the Salzburg Festival, at which Lewis performed. He is currently the Artistic Director of the prestigious school, which recruits talented students from universities around the globe. Slightly soiled at lower left background. Corners slightly worn and creased. Slight surface creases and dents (not seen head on). Ink smudge on bottom right of verso. Faded pencil note (unknown hand) on top right. Otherwise, fine condition.
