Vintage candid 3½x5½ photo of the actor and announcer, in a pinstripe suit in front of a columned stairway, from the collection of Francis and Violet Zane
Photograph signed: "Bill Lundigan". B/w, 3½x5½. Candid photo. William Lundigan (1914-1975) began and ended his career as a radio/TV announcer. From the late 1930s through the early 1950s, he starred in many B-movies and played featured roles in upper tier films, mostly action movies but also two in the Andy Hardy series. He left film to serve in the U. S. Marines during World War II. He starred in the weekly TV space adventure Men into Space (1959). Lundigan was a longtime commercial spokesman for Chrysler, on and off the air. This photograph is from the collection of Francis and Violet Zane, Hawaii natives who moved to California in the 1920's. Francis Zane had a job at the historic Curran Theater and the San Francisco Opera House, which is where he began his massive collection, with photographs and materials ranging from the 1920's to 1960's. The location and luck of his occupation would land him smack dab in the middle of the celebrity world, allowing him to capture some of the most unique and interesting pieces of Hollywood history. Lightly bowed. Corners slightly creased. Lightly toned. Otherwise, fine condition.
