Coolidge's Secretary of Agriculture writes to Senator Frank Willis
saying that he will submit the Senator's recommendation for a delegate to the
Eighth International Dairy Congress.
Typed Letter signed: "W M Jardine", as Secretary of
Agriculture, 1 page, 7x9. Washington, 1928 March 12. On letterhead of
The Secretary of Agriculture addressed to Hon. Frank B. Willis, United States
Senate. In full: "Dear Senator Willis: I, also, think Ohio should be
represented at the Eigth International Dairy Congress. I am glad to have your
recommendation of Mr. Dunlap whom I favor as a delegate, and I shall send his
name to the Secretary of State for appointment. Sincerely yours," William
M. Jardine (1879-1955), formerly President of Kansas State
University (1918-1925), served as Secretary of Agriculture under
President Calvin Coolidge (1925-1929) and was U. S. Minister to Egypt in
1930. He played an integral part in the 1926 formation of the Board of Trade
Clearing Corporation (BOTCC) after the Chicago Board of Trade (CBOT) adopted
his suggestions for regular reporting of large trader positions, a business
conduct committee and the formation of a centralized clearing house.
Frank B. Willis (1871-1928) served as the 47th Governor of Ohio and was
elected to the U.S. Senate in 1920, replacing President Warren G. Harding in the
seat. Multiple mailing folds. Lightly toned and creased. Staple holes at top
left corner. Lightly worn. Otherwise, fine condition.
